I was watching David Dobrik's livestream and he was talking about people who have broken away from YouTube to become stars. He said the only two he can think of are Liza and the Pauls. Someone said what about Miranda Sings? He said, yeah, well she has the Netflix show, but I'm thinking about people who are famous and household names. Hahaha. Even in the YT community, her "fame" and show aren't very impressive. Damn the shadddeeeee

Am I wrong in thinking that October 20 popsicle shot on her Insta is too hipster of a composition for Colleen or Kory? Must be someone's influence or he took the shot for her. I can't find the photo? Miranda Sings IG

What does Liza do that makes her a household name? I don't follow her stuff so I'm not sure.

I really hope this season of HBO is better than the first. The first season was way too dark and depressing. I put something on my tv every night when I go to sleep that I've already seen to have background noise & I NEVER choose HBO because it's so damn depressing. I don't really have much hope though.

What does Liza do that makes her a household name? I don't follow her stuff so I'm not sure. Honestly? I don't think she is a household name. I love her, her personality is unique and all. But she hasn't reached that status yet. She is HUGE when it comes to teens/regular social media users but not in the real world. Jake Paul (not Logan)is a household name only because he made it on the news due to his shit behavior, but that'll fade away soon enough (if it hasn't already). However, I LOVE The shade David threw at Colleen. I HOPE she sees this. Wow, he doesn't hold back. That's what I love about youtubers like him, theyre honest and don't give a fuck about censoring themselves and their opinions because they don't beg for collabs or desperately kiss big youtubers' asses so that they get views from different types of audiences (*cough* COLLEEN *cough*). They work hard for what they get without begging the audience to like them and while being completely genuine.

I feel like Colleen could be tons more likable and entertaining if she could be genuine and honest, but maybe the kids prefer her phony baloney "spread happiness" shit. Also, I wouldn't call David saying Colleen's not a household name "shade", as much as it was telling the truth. I mean, technically he shaded anyone who's not Liza Koshy or the Pauls.

What does Liza do that makes her a household name? I don't follow her stuff so I'm not sure. I definitely don't think she's a household name, but I think, since she's doing TRL, she might get more hosting work and become a household name kinda like Chrissy Teigen did. Colleen had that chance when she did the jerry Seinfeld thing, but she screwed herself by going as miranda and not colleen, the general consensus was that it was really fucking stupid, since the show is about getting to know the person behind the character.

David is Liza's boyfriend so I'm sure some bias comes with the household name statement. She is one of the few people I believe has potential to be more. I believe Hannah Hart is more of a household name. She's done cooking shows and something in relation to Dr. Who.
The only reason Jake Paul is a household name is because he was on a Disney show for a bit and loved pissing off his neighbors.

Good point about Colleen being fake.
If she was herself in order to appeal to an older audience, she would lose some of her minion following.
I remember watching her vlogs and she would be talking and vlogging backstage using a normal voice. Then, she'd go onstage and her voice would raise so much higher and faker.
David Dobrik seems like he would be a giant butthole from his blogs. But, then he does live streams and he is genuine and honest, insecure even. And, like Criss said he doesn't care. He's who he is.
I actually think the real Colleen would have been 100x more interesting than the fake Colleen. But, for her to switch now would mean she has been faking all along.

I think Colleen is screwed no matter what she tries to do. The only reason she (and in all fairness this goes for most YouTubers) has made a name for herself is because there's something about her that appealed to a small number of teenagers. Their dedication is literally the only thing keeping Toe afloat. The bigger gigs she's had she only got because of Miranda, and even then the vast majority of the public can't stand that character. Even her dedicated fans I think are getting over the shtick. The problem is that Colleen Ballinger is terribly unfunny and relies on toilet humor to get a cheap laugh. She has mediocre singing talent that has been fading for 10 years and soon it'll be insufferable, her acting way OTT and only suited for theater or children's shows (both of which she's past her prime for breaking into and gaining any real success). Her writing is garbage (look at any real HBO review, they talk about how bad the writing is). She tries so hard to sound like Ariana or Tori Kelly and the like, and it comes off as desperate and cringeworthy. I just don't see a future for her doing anything noteworthy. I agree with those who have said that she should just work with kids in some sort of theater program. Other than that I don't see her having any success. I hate how she and other YouTubers make millions for being untalented and simply popular among a fan base of obsessive teens.

I feel like she should give Miranda another year or two, retire the character and focus on making better quality on her main channel. Try more original content and more sophisticated humour. She needs to grow with her audience or she's dead in the water. She could get a few more years out of YouTube but I don't think she can be famous forever. Most celebrities can't, especially on YouTube.

That's interesting...makes me also think that a diff approach w the Netflix show could've been better too. Like maybe make it about the story of rising to fame as a YouTube character (behind the scenes). I'm a thousand times more interested in seeing that unreleased documentary than I am in HBO.

Is it just me or does she actually sound pretty good for most of this song? Since that's one of my favorite Tori Kelly songs ever... I'm annoyed 😂 she tried to way too fucking hard and she looked constipated as usual. I never thought she could sing anyway lmao I personally found it to be an interesting song choice. It's not a new song. So what was compelling her to sing it, hmmm?

I've always thought this. Even before the show came out. That it would really only work as an Office-style mockumentary showing her rise. They shot themselves in the foot by trying to make it something it could never be nor anything anyone ever wanted.

The lyrics are very telling of her feelings towards him moving on after being (or pretending, who knows) upset for such a long time over the divorce, and the thought of him not giving a shit anymore, even if she has a boyfriend, makes her feel like shit.

With all due respect, I wouldn't label any YouTubers as household names yet. While they can consider themselves "famous" or "celebrities", YouTube hasn't become commonplace for every generation in order to label solely YouTube creators (not people who have created their own career like Troye Sivan) as household names. There is potential for them to reach that status

I wonder if Colleen is going to announce if any of the HBO cast is coming on tour with her or if she wants to keep it a secret so it's a surprise. She may not be able to resist subtly bragging that she wrangled her castmates into coming with her. And it's not like she's doing anything new with her live show, it's not like she can really surprise anyone, like oh look, Erik's doing the sword in the neck Think of Me number. Again.

I want to know why Netflix picked up HBO at all, how did Colleen pitch it? What's her demographic - lewd 14 year olds? People who thought Nepolitan Dynamite was too sophisticated? There's no plot, it's not funny, what are the redeeming qualities?? I also don't get the premise at all, is it a re-enactment of her "rise to fame"? I feel like Miranda is supposed to be a bad actor so I don't understand why that's not incorporated? There's so many plot holes and I'm just so confused. Who the actual fuck green-lighted this monstrosity? I could be wrong about this because it was a long time ago, but I read or heard, that Colleen had a choice to go with Netflix or HBO (Home Box Office Channel) with Haters Back Off, and she choose Netflix. There's a possibility that this was just a rumor I read somewhere, so I don't know if this is true or not.

I had never heard of them til a few months ago (not that I am part of that demographic, but still).

Colleen says Season 2's gonna be all about Miranda trying to patch things up with people she wronged so MAYBE it'll be more lighthearted and upbeat? I feel like the first time around they were trying to go for Emmies for every character so hopefully now that they know that ain't gonna happen they turned down the drama.

I didn't know about them wanting a kid to play Miranda. That's funny and it speaks volumes, meaning that legit entertainment companies also thought that Colleen was to old to play Miranda. I could never picture HBO picking up Haters Back Off no matter who portrayed Miranda.
